So Etsy listings expire after 4 months. Here’s some pretty spectacular stuff that didn’t sell during the winter, 20% off my already eminently reasonable prices.
I know you were just waiting for that ridiculously awesome Johnny Carson 2 piece vest/sport coat set to come down a bit.
Regular blogging will (I promise*) come back next week.

Trying to price some vintage tie clips but prices on Etsy range from $5 to $100.
What would you pay for a plain vintage tie clip? for a more embellished one?

What's up followers?
I’ve been pretty half-assed around here these days haven’t I?
No no, you don’t have to make me feel better* it’s true.
It’s mostly been finishing grad school, which I emailed my final paper for on Monday. Also, this spring was like 30 degrees every day until last Friday, so I’ve been kind of cobbling together weird hybrid outfits that are strange, somewhat...

Too early for patchwork madras pants?
Anonymous asked: I see lot of shoe-game going on here recently so let me ask: I've acquired a Crockett&Jones oxfords through thrifting recently, but they are slightly beat up. They hold up a shape (more or less), but leather has minor cracking on a side, lots of scuffs, wrinkles and excess cheap shoe polish on it - they've been obviously mistreated by previous owner. Is there any potential for second...
secretaryofswagriculture asked: I've been looking through your thrifting posts and I saw the post about the Bostonian shoes. Same thing happened to me, I was in a Goodwill and saw some nice Oxford Wingtips, leather soles, full grain leather uppers, no scuffs or cracks or anything but they were Dexter brand. I'd never heard of that but I looked it up and wasn't impressed. But the quality of the shoes was so good...

erasuretim asked: Do you sanitize thrifted shoes at all? I only buy shoes from thrift stores if they are in really good condition and then just bung them on. It's not like I'm going to wear them barefoot! The other week I picked up a pair of custom made Barker brogues [hand made in Northampton] They are ace! Keep up the good work and lucky thrifting!!
lotionfrahm asked: Have you ever tried a handle bar mustache? I think it would fit you well! Especially with how well you dress!
sashu asked: Happy birthday! Hope there's cake. I mean, I'll send you some if there isn't any, but it'd be gross and stale by the time it gets there. :\

Things I may or may not have purchased vol 4.
Navy Blue Silk Jacquard Shawl Collared Smoking Jacket.
Anonymous asked: Have your thrifting adventures yielded any successful finds of shorts? I like to dabble in thrifting and have yet to turn up many good finds in the shorts category. Though t-shirts and light weight summer shirts are abundant, the shorts are severely lacking.

Friendly Reminder.
Today marks the third consecutive day after “spring” began where it’s been “nice” (at least in Maine). This is usually my key for when the spring thrift season begins. I’d say now might be a good time to refresh yourself with my Thrifter’s Manifesto, and more broadly my tips on thrifting.
Think of it this way. Are you itching to get out of your winter...
WOW!
So I’ve gotten like 70+ new followers in the last 24 hours. Hello to you all, feel free to direct any questions here.
Also, if you live in the northeast we are just entering prime thrifting season, so if you came here for thrift advice I’d say start here and then get going, the thrifts are going to be packed the next month or so.
Best,
AFoS.

I dont know how google analytics works but I do know you can potentially use it to see where your new cultists are coming from
I could potentially, but I also don’t know how to use google analytics. Or have the savvy to run a cult.

Uhhh... hi?
Shout out to my bunch of new followers. Where you guys come from? I didn’t even post today.
If you were hoping for more “snarky answers to anonymous questions” I’m kind of over it. For some reason the more sarcasm I heap on the answer the more they assume they’ve really broken me and that I’m a sad person deep down that just wants to be loved by anonymous...

Anonymous asked: Love the purple tweed, and I think you've got a solid outfit overall. As for how to otherwise style it, given that it's spring, I'd lighten everything up. White/cream trousers, perhaps, with a subtle tatterall shirt? I dunno, when I hear "purple tweed" I instantly conjure Paul Stuart dandyism. ~ Scott Alexander / The Cable Knit Charlestonian

I love lists!

Anonymous asked: Regarding your going-out look: I know it's cold up in Portland, but have you considered a different style of hat? Something a little smarter, maybe a flat cap of some sort? I just have this thing where I see guys who are well-dressed and put together, but they're wearing knit hats and it ruins the look for me.
