#Menswear is not the sole arbiter of style: or,...
I had a minor revelation at work today.  Minor because it’s not going to blow anybody’s fucking mind.  A revelation, because it finally helped an idea I’d been having for a while now “click”. So this guy comes in (calls himself Picasso) in super baggy, slightly sagged gray nylon cargo pants and a wife-lover, tattoos all over, small Nike drawstring bag, etc…...

Hurricane Irene
I don’t get serious on Tumblr very often, but I hope you’ll allow me one discursive post into some very serious, very personal subject matter. As you may or may not know, I have a conflicted relationship with my hometown in southern Vermont.  Growing up I was much like I am now, outspoken, brash, loud, vibrant, an outsider with an outside perspective.  That didn’t mesh well with...

Anonymous asked: Thanks for clarifying that oxfords shouldn't be worn with socks, that wearing socks that 'don't match' is 'sprezzy,' and that fine shoes are broken in after two days. Slap a big yikes on this. Unsubscribed.

…From my friends birthday celebration.  The theme? Dress like you came from an awesome wedding.  The night has been a bit too generous in the “AFOS Drinking Pics” that are all the rage these days. Pics up tomorrow.  Lots of #swag.  Be ready.

On Going Sockless
So now that summer is mostly gone (up in Maine anyway) I thought I’d post something I’ve been knocking around for a while.  Socklessness. I have a sartorial confession to make.  This is the very first year I’ve gone sockless.  I know I know, how did I ever manage?  Well, to be perfectly honest there was a time (let’s say freshman/sophomore year of college) when I’d...

Anonymous asked: I live in Arkansas man. I just read this article and it echoes sooo much with the situation here. I lived in Miami, FL for 3 years. While that's not a menswear capital it still is a place where you wear a blazer to on a date, a suit on several occasions, and even needed a tux several times. For various reasons I took a raise and a job back where I am from and your article about style in an...

Formality and Style in an Informal, Unstylish...
If you’re like me you’ve probably noticed a subtle shift in the blogosphere lately.  As more and more people begin to develop their own style, they begin to feel more comfortable dressing “like themselves.”  However, something has been nagging at me.  A thought that something is not quite right.  I haven’t been able to articulate it thus far as the proper wording (and...

Maximalism: Redux
Couple of things I’d like to respond to, I don’t think anyone would begrudge me a reblog every now and then. It’s not like that’s my primary thing. I base most of my style choices on a sartorial Occam’s Razor, that is to say that the simplest outfit is most likely the correct one.Although I love a good cluttered or patterned look, nothing gets my attention like someone...

The detail on a jacket of unknown provenience
So a couple days ago, I posted that I got a pretty incredible (presumably bespoke) jacket.  No tags of any kind, so at the very least the material is a mystery (I believe it to be some kind of linen & cotton or wool blend), it has a nice hand either way. I am posting these details for two main reasons. First? Compliments.   Tuesday night I went out to (of all things) a poetry slam.  Mostly...

goingoutgoingin asked: Okay, I got an interesting question that's been on my mind (and I want to ask it to a bunch of Tumblrers). It started when I flipped on the TV like two weeks ago to the matrix and they mention how in the Matrix you wear whatever you see yourself in. So when you picture yourself in your head, what's the one outfit you'd be wearing? Try to resist the urge to give multiple answers that...

“And I don’t give a shit how much of “an individual” you are—the watch belongs on...”
– Nice try, bro. I’ve only ever worn my watch on my right wrist, it’s just more comfortable for me.  This is one of those stupid fucking “rules” that may have practical implications, but mostly serves to let people feel superior to those who’ve gotten it...

rules rules rules blah blah blah
yes yes yes yes yes. I’ve written some about heritage and “the rules” and even about what’s “classic” and for whom, and this is a 100% cosign.  I’m not an Italian heir, or an English duke, or motherfucking James Bond or whatever.  I’m me, you’re you.  Let’s dress like ourselves, alright? whataqueerbird: tinaratedtinaapproved: I read...

thesilentist: Day two of wearing denim and some shirt-tie combos I do rarely. Fit details after the jump: Read More It needs the right jeans, but a dark denim w. navy sport coat/blazer is tops for me.  I just think it hits all the right notes.  It’s all dark/busines-esque, and with all the formal elements of a suit, but the jeans (especially with a healthy cuff) keep it casual.   ...

This day has been exhausting, but amazing.
So today was most interesting. First, my piece went up on Park and Bond. Which I’ve known was coming, but still super excited to see. Second, a one legged man in a wheel chair stole a single shoe from the store. A giant, bright red, suede sneaker with a huge crepe sole, like moon shoes. (THIS IS 100% TRUE.) Third, a gray flannel Hickey Freeman suit came into our store (If anyone in the...

Park & Bond - In Defense of the Reblog →
If you thought I was going to be one of the bloggers up on Park and Bond, you were right. Also, how in the world did you know that? Either way, I think I’ve earned that most auspicious of title’s: “blogger of some note”!
