erasuretim asked: Do you sanitize thrifted shoes at all? I only buy shoes from thrift stores if they are in really good condition and then just bung them on. It's not like I'm going to wear them barefoot! The other week I picked up a pair of custom made Barker brogues [hand made in Northampton] They are ace! Keep up the good work and lucky thrifting!!

Shoes, no (I just wipe them out).  Other clothes I’ll wash if they are dirty/smelly/I just don’t trust them, but often I’ll wear pants and outerwear straight from the store (is this a grimyliving hashtag?)

lotionfrahm asked: Have you ever tried a handle bar mustache? I think it would fit you well! Especially with how well you dress!

actually I haven’t.  The reason (which will likely surprise nobody) is that I have a friend with a handlebar, a friend with an “ambrose burnside” and several with beards.  I usually go with a standard cop stache for simplicity’s sake.

Maybe I’ll give the handlebar a try at some point since, as you pointed out, it would go strikingly with my look.

sashu asked: Happy birthday! Hope there's cake. I mean, I'll send you some if there isn't any, but it'd be gross and stale by the time it gets there. :\

so wait… then who sent me that cake this morning?

(Just kidding, cake in the mail would be gross.  It was pie.)

It’s my birthday today!

NEEDLESSLY CONGRATULATE ME ON THE CONFLUENCE OF 2 DAYS 29 YEARS APART!!

Things I may or may not have purchased vol 4.

Navy Blue Silk Jacquard Shawl Collared Smoking Jacket.

Anonymous asked: Have your thrifting adventures yielded any successful finds of shorts? I like to dabble in thrifting and have yet to turn up many good finds in the shorts category. Though t-shirts and light weight summer shirts are abundant, the shorts are severely lacking.

Alas I don’t wear shorts (I’m not a crazy “NO SHORTS EVAR!!11!” #menswear guy, I just don’t get down with ‘em).

However, because you’ve expressed an interest I’ll keep my eyes out during thrift season (the next month or so) and report back on the blorg.

Friendly Reminder.

Today marks the third consecutive day after “spring” began where it’s been “nice” (at least in Maine).  This is usually my key for when the spring thrift season begins.  I’d say now might be a good time to refresh yourself with my Thrifter’s Manifesto, and more broadly my tips on thrifting.

Think of it this way.  Are you itching to get out of your winter gear?  Do you have bins of summer stuff squirreled away?  Are you going to ditch some of your unworn winter stuff before you stash it?  Are you probably going to realize some of your spring/summer stuff isn’t what you remembered it being and donate that too?

If you are you’re in good company, and if you’re a thrifter, it’s time to get your game on.
