Work Clothes.
I still like to “dress up” to go to work. I feel like it gives me a sense of authority (or at least as much sense of authority as a retail clerk can have). But, since I don’t work in an office, I have a tremendous amount of leeway in what I actually wear.
Enter the tumbl-nets. I may chafe against much of the common wisdom of the internet and disagree with much of the #menswear crew but it doesn’t mean that things like the Italian background, double-four-in-hand’s, black watch pants and tassel loafers aren’t totally sweet, because they are. And you’re all right to like them.

Gingham/Floral.
Gingham shirt w. floral tie is my favorite summer combo. And I don’t know why cream jackets don’t get more props, they wear much cooler than navy, and are just about as versatile. Here I’ve chosen to echo the base colors of navy and yellow in both my pocket square and socks, which I think is a fun way of experimenting with color
Whatever though, nobody reads these WIWT’s anymore, so I should just do something silly.

Thrifting Reminder: You Never Win the Game.
I’ve gotten some questions in the past as to what my best thrift score was or why I don’t post my latest finds. The answer will probably disappoint most people as it’s very pedestrian.
I don’t really know.
As I covered in the Thrifter’s Manifesto, I don’t buy retail. I don’t go into a store expecting to score great stuff for pennies on the dollar or to nail down my (insert hot shit #menswear item) “game”, I just thrift shop. And as I shop, I look for things that strike my fancy.
This summer I’ve been going Buying (as opposed to just shopping) to consign things for some extra money (Q: How’s it going AFOS? A: Eh… could be better). But sometimes, in that process, I stumble across gems like these lightly worn Allen Edmonds Grayson Tassel Loafers that are for me.
I’ve actually been looking for a pair like these for a while. Being a #menswear blogger I’ve seen enough pics of tassel loafers that finally I went “alright, me too!” I have a pair of cheapo rubber soled ones that have done me alright (that, somewhat ironically, I paid $7 for), but that hasn’t stopped me looking for a better pair.
So today on my thrifting run I was on my 3rd store not really finding much and then I saw these, tried them on and $5 later I have my own pair of nice tassel loafers. No alarms went off, I didn’t painstakingly save up to buy a “grail” item, and truth be told I hadn’t really been thinking about tassel’s too much lately as I’m largely happy with my shoe selection.
If there was a “game” here, I suppose I would have won it. But that’s not really why I thrift shop. All bragging rights aside, I now find myself in possession of 3 pairs of Allen Edmonds for which I’ve paid a total of $9. Could be worse no?
Ed Note: You can also see the previously written “230” on the sole which I’m pretty sure is from another attempted resale or consignment, so I could have saved $100, or $330 by waiting. I think I made the right call.
Girlfriend’s Return.
Ashley comes back today. Wanted to look nice (also it’s Wednesday).
I should post some commentary, but I still need to do laundry because even though I had 2 weeks of time to myself to do laundry I still waited til the last possible second.

Levi’s 505’s - Inherited from my cousin (RIP)
LL Bean Cashmere Sweater Final Clearance - $15 (or so)
Brunch & beach wear. No shorts or flip-flops because the water is like 60 degrees until the end of July.
Going for a kind of “laid-back Italian jackass” look. (my shirt even has back darts)
I think the absolutely maximalist tassel loafers really sells it.
